Writing Prompt!!
- May. 27th, 2009 at 9:17 AM
This is the surprise I found in my garden this morning.

Write for fifteen minutes about this. Don't analyze. Don't plot. Don't outline. Just write.

I love the color of that egg/stone/thingymabobber! Teal is kind of soothing.
"Mama, come check out this bird!" exclaims the little boy.
"Later, honey," she tells him, "Now, it's time to eat." The young adventurer goes to sit at the kitchen table dejectedly.
The point, a blond woman, held up the freeze sign with her right fist. She slowly dropped to a knee, fanning her weapon slowly across her sector, mouth open a little, trying to hear any sign of pursuit. The team leader came up on her right.
"what?" he signed.
"There," she signed back, pointed with her chin. He looked up in a complete circle, eyes picking through the tree limbs. Another moment, "No nest."
"Damn, poor little thing." his voice croaked softly. It was the first sound anyone on the team had made for the last three days.
"Box it, 300 meters, maybe the birds come back." he signed.
"Doubt it." she signed back then slowly came back up to a crouch.
The team picked up and moved deeper into the woods, leaving the robin's egg on the ground.
Rich J.
There's that chance of a good day, a chance that the fog will fade away and that happiness will finally shine through.
Happiness. Joy. Sometimes, it's that forgotten easter egg left behind: not exactly hiding, but just wanting, waiting to be found.
The world as you will meet it is damp. Dampness you are familiar with so this will not shock you at first, it will be the cool air that will cause your skin to chill. Do not fear. You will grow and warmth will cover your body. Nourishment will come to you and as you grow you will see more colors of the world. Green, cool and dappled with the bright light from the sun, will bring you joy. Relish it.
Yellows and oranges will bring you warmth of the sun and fragrance of flowers.
Later will come blue. The blue sky will bring to you the freedom of flight. Weightless flight will bring you the greatest pleasure in life.
Brown in the earth is always a source of life for you. Trees reaching to the clouds will be a safe haven where you will begin again as you start life anew for another generation.
Thank you. I am ready now as the urge is upon me. I have outgrown this home and my courage has found me. I will break out and see the world.
"Wow!" her eyes grew as big as saucers as she watched it roll over to a fresh side of the shell. Her desire to touch it was enough to eat her alive, but she kept her distance, not wanting to hurt whatever she believed it was. I pulled a little leaf off the bush and scooped up the little egg. Setting it back into the nest that was cozily placed in the safety of the sugar maple. Lucky for the little guy it didn't fall into the sidewalk. After my good deed i headed back to the house with Jessie in tow. She didn't ask any questions...she was simply pleased with the fact that she got to watch a little act of kindness that would go a long way.
What careless urge of motherhood prompted her to leave it there, propped against a flimsy blade of grass for shelter as though she had been surprised mid-peck by the sudden birth and dropped it where she stood, like one of those women working the rice paddies in China, forgetting about the unbidden thing the moment the spasms faded and she was able to continue about her business, her insides blessedly hollow once again. And when she darted away to resume her search for dew-worms with a lightness returned to her flit—a lightness she had not noticed was missing, her tiny feet barely making scratch marks on the freshly moistened ground—perhaps she did not realize the lump of debris she had shed enclosed a shivering life that waited to be tended like a bulb in soil; it was a thing, just a thing, just a hard, foreign, inanimate thing, and so she left it there, her departure made easy because there were no eyes to look at her, no body to squirm for warmth, no beak to squawk and cry and demand and need.
